Johann van Eeden

Johann van Eeden is an economist with Econex, where he specialises in competition economics and international trade analyses. He holds a Masters degree in Economics cum laude, completed at Stellenbosch University and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and a Masters degree in Law (Economic Analysis of Law) from the University of Vienna.  Johann was both a European Commission and South Africa House Scholar during his respective postgraduate studies abroad. His undergraduate background is in finance and financial economics.

Before joining Econex, he was with the Trade Law Centre for Southern Africa (tralac) where his work centered around the economic impact of South Africa's quotas on Chinese clothing and textile imports. Johann is currently also a guest lecturer in trade policy and strategic trade policy to post graduate students in the Department of Economics, Stellenbosch University. 

Johann has traveled extensively throughout Africa and is particularly concerned with the competitiveness of industries in developing countries. His projects at Econex have included various competition and regulatory analyses, strategic analysis for a major fixed line telecoms operator, a transaction cost analysis of the Mozambican economy and the review of the anti-dumping procedure in South Africa.
