Prof. Stan du Plessis

Stan du Plessis is a macroeconomist at the University of Stellenbosch where he is a Professor in the Department of Economics. He teaches macroeconomics, monetary economics and advanced econometrics, mainly to graduate students in Stellenbosch and at the University of Cape Town.His publications in South African and International academic journals include papers on monetary policy, business cycles, applied econometrics, law and economics and competition policy. He is also a regular author on economic issues for the financial press in South Africa. Stan is an editor of the South African Journal of Economics and Treasurer and Secretary of the African Econometric Society.

Linette Ellis

Linette Ellis is a consulting economist with specific interest in econometric modeling, consumer spending and the South African retail sector, competition economics and the economic impact of HIV/AIDS. Having completed her Financial Economics honours degree at Stellenbosch University, Linette worked as an economist at the Bureau for Economic Research (BER) for 10 years (2000 - 2009), for whom she still consults today. During her time at the BER, she was the editor of the BER’s Retail Survey and responsible for running and maintaining the BER’s macro-econometric forecasting models. She has generated scenario forecasts and conducted price elasticity and other quantitative analyses for a number of large companies, including SABMiller, British American Tobacco, Woolworths, NERSA, Sasol, Sanlam, Nedcor and Transnet.
